Barry's Boats

 Sarasota, FL — Insurance By Barker proudly announces the launch of Barry’s Boats, a firefighter wellness program presented by the Sarasota Fire Fighters Benevolent Fund and sponsored by Insurance By Barker and Reel Tight Charters of Siesta Key.

Created to address the often unseen mental and emotional toll of the fire service, Barry’s Boats offers firefighters a meaningful opportunity to step away from the demands of the job. Each quarter, one firefighter is selected to receive a fully provided four-hour private charter with Reel Tight Charters. They may bring up to three guests and choose how to spend their time on the water—whether cruising, fishing, snorkeling, or simply relaxing. Food, beverages, and a dedicated captain are included, allowing for a completely restorative experience.

The program is named in honor of L.O.D.D. Captain Barry Maham (L2068) of Fairfax County, Virginia, who passed away in 2025 due to occupational cancer. Barry was a lifelong fireboat operator, an exceptional professional, and a deeply compassionate leader. He believed in the healing power of the water and lived that belief through service—supporting fellow firefighters, assisting in rescue efforts, and volunteering his time to help veterans and public safety personnel.  Barry was one of the first customers of Insurance By Barker, and longtime friends with Bill Barker.  

Barry’s legacy is one of action, generosity, and unwavering commitment to others. This program continues that legacy by giving firefighters the same sense of care and renewal he so often provided.

As Barry’s wife, Amber Maham, shared, “Barry loved helping people and being on the water. I can’t imagine a better way to honor his memory than Barry’s Boats. It’s meaningful to see his passion live on while helping others heal and find joy, just as he always did.”
